Hi @George3435,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e shuts down just after about 2 minutes, it's often due to its Auto-Off (Energy Saver) feature or a firmware/power glitch. Let’s gently guide it back to steady performance:

1. Disable Auto-Off / Auto Shutdown

Your printer may be set to turn off automatically after a short idle period. To adjust:

  1. Open HP App: HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site (Windows/macOS):
    • Select your printer, click Printer Properties → Advanced Settings.
    • Under the System (or Eco‑SMART) tab, locate Auto-Off or Shutdown after inactivity.
    • Set it to “Never” or extend the timeout to 2 hours.
  2. Hit Apply and close the app. Power cycle the printer (unplug for 30 seconds-plug back in) and verify if it stays on.

2. Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can lead to unexpected power behaviors:

  1. On the printer’s control panel: Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer.
  2. Wait patiently as the firmware installs; it’s like letting the printer fully stretch before restarting.

3. Check Power Source

  • Ensure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet (avoid strips or surge protectors).
  • Confirm the power cord is firmly connected and outlets work properly, feel for that steady, solid connection.

4. Perform a Factory Reset

If the problem keeps happening:

  1. Go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Factory Defaults.
  2. This erases custom settings and refreshes the system, like clearing the fog.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
