HP Envy 7200 Inspire will not print in color only black and white with OS Sequoia 15.7.1

Hi Tree74

The Recommended Fix: Reset Printing System and Use AirPrint

1. Reset the Printing System

This action removes all printers and their configurations from your Mac, allowing you to start fresh with a clean, compatible driver.

  1. Go to System Settings (formerly System Preferences).

  2. Click on Printers & Scanners.

  3. In the left column, right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers.

  4. Select "Reset printing system..."

  5. Confirm your password and the action.

2. Re-Add the HP Printer with AirPrint

  1. In the empty Printers & Scanners window, click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax... button (the + button).

  2. Select your HP ENVY Inspire 7200 from the list of detected printers.

  3. Crucial Step: Before clicking "Add," check the dropdown menu next to "Use" or "Type".

    • If it shows the HP driver (e.g., "HP Envy Inspire 7200 series"), click on it and manually change the selection to AirPrint.

  4. Click Add.

3. Verify the Color Option

  1. Open any color document or photo (e.g., a color PDF in Preview).

  2. Go to File > Print.

  3. In the print dialogue box, make sure to click Show Details to expand all options.

  4. Look for a dropdown menu (it might default to "Layout" or "Media & Quality"). Cycle through these options. You should now find a setting that allows you to choose between "Color" or "Black & White (Grayscale)" under the main printing options.

Secondary Troubleshooting Steps

If the AirPrint method does not resolve the issue:

A. Check the HP Smart App

The HP Smart app can sometimes override or manage print settings better than the macOS dialogue.

  • Open the HP Smart app.

  • Select your HP ENVY Inspire 7200.

  • Go into the print settings from within the app and verify that the default is not set to grayscale or black-and-white.

B. Update Printer Firmware

It's possible your printer's firmware needs an update to maintain compatibility with macOS Sequoia 15.7.1.

  • You can usually initiate a Firmware Update directly through the printer's own touch screen menu, or by running an update check within the HP Smart app.

I hope the above is helpful
