Trying to install software for HP 8620 wireless. Install app finds the printer with correct IP, MAC and network type displayed. When I select it the "next" it goes to "Installing network printer" screen, grinds for 5 minutes, then fails with "Unsuccessful Network Installation" message. Printer is connected and I can print but I can't scan or fax with it. When I click on the HP icon in the program listing it wants to try to install the software again. Idea?

I found the solution. There was a bad entry in the registry. Here are the steps to fix it:
**Be aware that if you have other printers installed on your PC, those will need to be reinstalled too once completing these steps.
1. Uninstall the HP Software from your PC.
2. Backup your registry prior to making any registry changes:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03485724
3. Update your registry using the Reg file below (that will change some printer related policies for your PC):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/avbv56zdgwv7600/kernel.reg?dl=1
4. Right-click the Start menu and select Run.
Type Services.msc and press OK.
Locate and stop the Print Spooler service
5. Browse to c:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers.
Rename W32X86 to W32x86.old
Rename x64 to x64.old
Note: if any of these folders fail to rename reboot your PC and then Continue following the steps starting from Step 4...
6. Restart your computer.
7. Reinstall the HP Software and check for any difference

More info. I installed HP Smart and with it I can scan and print. It works as advertised. The 8620 software package still will not install. Today I tried to install the 8620 full package on a different Dell laptop also running Windows 10. I got the same error. Conclusion: Network and printer are working OK. Something in Windows 10 is preventing HP software from installing. OJ8620_198.exe is the software downloaded for the HP Officejet Pro 8620 printer.
