Printer stopped printing after firmware update.  MacBook Pro sees the printer but will not allow installation.  No problem with WIFI.  All internal printer diagnostics OK.  Tried HP Smart.  Waste of time.

Hi @RSG53 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is to deal with a printer that stopped working after a firmware update. Since your MacBook Pro can see the printer but won't allow installation, there might be a compatibility issue between the updated firmware and your MacBook's operating system.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  • Rollback Firmware: If possible, try rolling back the firmware to the previous version. Sometimes, updates can cause unexpected issues, and reverting to the previous version might solve the problem.Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Manual Installation: Instead of relying on the automatic installation process, try manually installing the printer drivers on your MacBook Pro. You can usually find the necessary drivers on the HP website. Make sure to select the correct drivers for your printer model and your MacBook's operating system.
  • Reset Printer: Try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This can sometimes resolve issues caused by firmware updates. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
  • Alternative Printing Methods: If you need to print urgently and can't get the printer working with your MacBook Pro, consider using alternative printing methods such as printing from a different device or using a USB connection if your printer supports it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
