I replaced the ink cartridges in my printer and immediately got a "ink head error" message. I tried resetting the whole printer and got it to go into set up mode but was still also getting the error message. I now have another print head and I am not receiving the error message but I am stuck in setup mode. It gets playing the animation of how to set up the printer and wont let me continue.

Hi @Lstev9868

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Is the printer asking for a setup ink cartridge?

If the printer is only stuck at the animation, let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

If the issue persists, resetting the printer to its factory settings may help.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Ok,  so I went through the steps and was ensuring that I had the printer plugged into the computer so that the download could recognize my printer and see if it needed and update and noticed my plug was in the wrong outlet. So I plugged it into the computer again and now I am out of the animation and have a "printhead problem" error message telling me to removed all ink cartridges and printhead and then re-install. I have completed these steps and still receive the same message. I have also tried turning it back off and on again.

@Lstev9868, that's unfortunate.

Perform step 2 mentioned in this document to resolve this error.

Let me know how this goes.
