Printer downloads to 100% then says download failure ->Retry or Ok. Retry doesn't download at all. I have reset the printer several times (removing the power cord). Still does not work. Instant Ink requires updates to be installed.

Hi @bjc1213,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing a download failure while trying to update your HP printer, there are a few steps you can take to try to resolve the issue.

  • Check your internet connection: Ensure that your internet connection is stable and working properly. A poor or unstable internet connection can cause download failures.
  • Check the HP website for updates: Go to the HP website and manually download the latest driver and firmware updates for your printer. This can help bypass any download issues that may be occurring through the printer software.
  • Temporarily disable any antivirus or firewall software: Antivirus or firewall software can sometimes interfere with the downloading of printer updates. Try disabling these programs temporarily and attempt to download the update again.
  • Restart your computer: Restarting your computer can sometimes clear up any issues with the software or drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hey HP Support team, could you please stop repeating the same answer about firmware update failure ?

There are lot of messages on this forum about this known issue !

There is an issue on the HP SIDE !  Since the last week, lot of printer encounter a firmware download / install failure.

Instead of repeating like a bot, just fix this major issue !

A forum user MM162 already explain the issue with details :

---------------

So far it seems the printer actualy manage to connect HP update servers, the file are available for download as you can download them with a regular browser:

This is not only annoying but time consuming.  I have already completed all of the suggestions before coming on here to see what the Community were saying.  It would appear as you say the problem is a HP one.  They need to stop trying to send a faulty download and let us revert to what it was prior until such times as the programmers get it right.  Surely, they should test any download prior to making it live....bit of a worry!

Thank you  Cyayon, I believe you are correct.

I had tried everything, including resetting the printer several times, rebooting the PC, even doing a factory reset on the printer (nearly messed up my instant ink) but nothing worked.

Then I rang HP support and explained the problem. The guy told me that there was a known issue with this update for the OfficeJet series of printers and that HP were working on a fix. He said a lot of people were complaining about it.

Download still not working. No sign of a fix....

The standard bot response from HP is really not helpful. Just hurry up with the fix.

I had the same problem with my OfficeJet Pro 8024. I found this suggestion on another post  - I can't find it now but it worked for me.

Go to HP Customer Support - Knowledge Base

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Download the update  to your PC from there and run the exe

It worked !
