HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I have been trying for several days now to fix a problem that occurs when the printer automatically attempts a "Printer Update" . The update will appear to download normally, counting up to 100%. Then it displays a message "The printer update could not be downloaded".  On the retry, the download never gets past zero and the printer is useless...can't print, fax, anything. I've tried all the suggestions I've seen: unplugging and plugging back in at all the outlets, turning power off and on again, tried "restore network settings"  twice. All appears to be ok until the next download is attempted, and it all crashes again.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi @seaweed3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing a Printer update crashing issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove the USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating the printer firmware.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

UPDATE - nope, now it's giving me the same error message.  It is connected to the internet - if I cancel the error message, I can print from my ipad, and from my desktop.  But I have to cancel the error message before I can do any printing.  Once the error message shows, it reads as offline.  As soon as error message is cancelled (and it has to start up again), then reads as online.  Can print a couple of things before error message shows up again.  Sigh.

Running the HP Smart Diagnosis tool says the Print Spooler, Device Manager, Part Manager, Print Queue, Printer Offline, and Driver tests all could not be completed.   Tried updating directly from touch screen - unsuccessful.

I THINK it helped - will let you know.  It downloaded a new version of HP Smart - maybe that was the issue.  Now it doesn't do troubleshooting.  Thanks for directions!
