Printer Setup Incomplete Error:

This Printer has cloud based features or services that require it to be registered to an HP account.  Something has gone wrong or is incomplete in the registration.

I followed all of the Quick Start Guide steps.  I still cannot print.  And HP's AI support was not helpful.

Hi @Garrett5456

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I am sorry for the difficulty you are facing with your printer setup not completing. I understand how frustrating it feels when you carefully follow the Quick Start Guide and still end up with an error about registration.

I appreciate the effort you’ve already put in to try and get the printer working.

Here are steps you can try to complete the setup and get printing:

Step 1: Confirm Internet Connection

  • Make sure the printer is connected to a stable Wi‑Fi network.
  • On the printer’s control panel, print a Network Configuration Page to confirm the IP address and connection status.

Step 2: Sign In Through the HP App

  • Download or open the HP App from the Microsoft Store (Windows) or App Store (mobile).
  • Sign in with your HP account.
  • Add the printer by selecting “Set up a new printer” and follow the prompts.

Step 3: Clear Previous Setup Attempts

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network > Restore Network Defaults.
  • Restart the printer.
  • Re‑add the printer in the HP App.

Step 4: Update Firmware

  • Visit HP’s support page for your printer model:
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
  • Enter your printer name or serial number.
  • Download and install the latest firmware update to ensure compatibility with cloud services.

Step 5: Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App

  • In the HP App, select your printer.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Run the scan to automatically detect and resolve registration or communication issues.

Step 6: Test Printing Locally

  • Before retrying cloud features, send a test print from your computer using a direct USB or Wi‑Fi connection.
  • This confirms the printer hardware is functioning correctly.

These steps should help complete the registration process and allow you to print normally.
