Hi @Pds618,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the images. They help clarify the issue. Here’s what I see:

  • Image 1: The printer screen shows:
“Update in Progress. This may take several minutes. You can check HP Instant Ink Status by touching the ink icon from the home menu.”
This means the printer is trying to complete a firmware or Instant Ink update.
  • Image 2: The printer screen shows:
“Connect Printer. Cannot print. Press OK to connect the printer to update the status.”
This indicates the printer is stuck waiting for an Internet connection to finish the update process.

Why This Happens

  • HP Envy 5530 requires a stable Internet connection for web services and Instant Ink updates.
  • If the update process is interrupted or the printer cannot verify its status online, it will block printing, even local jobs.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Check Internet Connection

  • Make sure the printer is connected to Wi-Fi:
    • Tap the Wireless icon → confirm it shows Connected.
  • If not, reconnect using the Wireless Setup Wizard
    • Set up → Network Settings → Wireless Setup Wizard.

2. Restart Printer and Router

  • Power off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Restart your router.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

3. Force Update Completion

  • On the printer:
    • Press OK on the “Connect Printer” screen.
    • Wait for the update to finish.
  • If it hangs for more than 10 minutes:
    • Cancel update → Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore Defaults.
    • Reconnect to Wi-Fi and retry.

4. Disable Web Services Temporarily

  • If the update keeps failing:
    • Setup → Web Services → Remove Web Services.
  • This will allow local printing without Instant Ink verification.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
