@Tobygeorge, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

We understand that you're experiencing an issue with your HP ENVY Inspire 7924e printer where it shows an "Out of paper" error only when printing from your Mac, while printing from your iPhone/iPad and copying works fine. This suggests it's likely a Mac driver, settings, or communication issue, rather than a hardware problem with the printer itself.

Here’s a breakdown of steps you can try:

Check Paper Size and Type Settings (Important!)

  • On your Mac, navigate to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP printer and click Options & SuppliesDriver tab.
  • Ensure the paper size matches what is physically loaded in the tray (e.g., "Letter" for US Letter or "A4" for international).
  • In the print dialog (when you click File > Print), manually select the correct paper size and type (Plain paper, Letter, etc.) before sending the print job.

Delete and Re-add the Printer (Reset Connection)

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) on your HP printer and select Remove.
  • Click Add Printer (+) and re-add your HP printer.
    • Prefer AirPrint if it appears (avoid "HP Secure AirPrint" or "HP driver" unless AirPrint fails).

Reset the Printing System (If Deleting/Re-adding Doesn’t Work)

  • In Printers & Scanners, right-click in the list of printers and choose "Reset printing system..." (this will clear all printer settings).
  • After resetting, re-add the printer fresh.

Update Printer Firmware

  • On the printer screen, navigate to:
Settings → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer → Check for Updates.
  • Even if it prints from iOS devices, firmware glitches can still affect Mac printing.

Check for macOS Updates

  • Ensure your Mac's macOS Sequoia is fully updated.
  • Sometimes, printer support fixes are included in system updates.

Print from Another User Account (Test for User Profile Corruption)

  • Create a new user account temporarily on your Mac.
  • Log into that account and try printing.
  • If it works there, your original account may have a corrupted printer setting.

Why It Works from iPhone/iPad but Not Mac:

iPhones and iPads use native AirPrint, which communicates differently than macOS. If the wrong drivers or settings are stuck on your Mac, it can lead to issues. The printer itself is functioning correctly; it’s the Mac that may be sending incorrect commands or misreading the settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
