HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

We moved our 7740 Wide Format All in One printer from one location to another. It went from working with Windows 11 computers to working again with Windows 11 computers. But when installed through the HP Smart software, it only installs as fax only. I have tried several things listed on this web and other unsuccessfully. Unable to print at all.

Hi @acarovargas1979,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to move your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer, only to find it installs as fax-only and refuses to print, even though everything worked fine before. Let’s walk through a simple, effective fix together.

Step-by-Step Solution

1. Remove the Fax-Only Installation

  • Go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners.
  • Find HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Fax, click it, and choose Remove.

2. Download Full Feature Software (Not Just HP Smart)

HP Smart sometimes installs only the fax driver. You need the full driver package:

👉 Download HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer series | HP® Support

  • Choose Windows 11 as your OS.
  • Download “HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Full Feature Software and Drivers”.
  • Run the installer and follow the prompts. Make sure to select the printer, not the fax, during setup.

3. Restart and Reconnect

  • Restart your computer.
  • Power cycle the printer (turn off, unplug for 60 seconds, plug back in).
  • Reconnect via Wi-Fi or USB, depending on your setup.

4. Set the Correct Printer as Default

  • Go to Printers & Scanners again.
  • Select HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 (not Fax).
  • Click Set as Default.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
