My printer is connected through USB and works perfectly fine with every app except for HP smart. I cannot get the printer to show up in the app so I can't use any functions through the app. I have location services turned off by default from my company's IT department and I am not allowed to print over wifi. I can print from any other app and I can scan perfectly fine from the Windows Fax and Scan app.
I am unable to run .exe files without going through IT so I'm hoping there is some way to fix this without re-downloading the app or drivers.

Hi @seanmm18,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Ensure HP Smart App Compatibility
Check for Updates: Make sure the HP Smart app is updated to the latest version available in the Microsoft Store. Updates often resolve bugs and improvements.
Reinstall HP Smart: Uninstall the HP Smart app and then reinstall it. This can often resolve connection issues.
Add Printer Manually in HP Smart
- Open HP Smart: Launch the HP Smart app on your computer.
- Add Printer: Try adding the printer manually by clicking on "Add Printer" or the "+" icon, even if the printer is connected via USB.
Allow USB Connection in HP Smart
The HP Smart app primarily focuses on wireless features, so ensure that the app settings allow for USB-connected printers:
- Settings Adjustment: Sometimes, adjusting settings in the HP Smart app or re-adding the printer device can refresh the connection.
Check for IT Restrictions
- IT Department Policies: Since location services are turned off by your company's IT, ensure there are no additional restrictions placed by your department that might affect HP Smart app operations.
I hope this helps.
