I want to print over USB cable, not wifi. The printer is on, I can print "information" pages, I have the USB cable plugged in correctly, and sometimes it prints when I ask to print a document, but usually it does not. Usually if it does, I have to press the 'i' button, then it prints the printer information page then my document. Most of the time, it does not print the document. Sometimes if I power cycle the printer, it then prints old docs that had not printed.

Since I can occasionally get it to print, I think the USB cable is fine, the printer is powered, my PC is set up to see the printer. But at this rate I cannot print as needed.

I've tried the full 'Power drain' and disconnected the printer for 3 minutes, and powered again - no dice. I tried using HP Smart App to print but it just says "The printer is not connected to the internet" (again I do NOT want to use the internet, only USB).

Any ideas?

Hi @Chris1479 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, but there are a few more things you can attempt to resolve the issue:

  • Check USB Connection: Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and your computer. Try using a different USB cable or connecting to a different USB port on your computer to rule out any cable or port issues.
  • Printer Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Sometimes outdated or corrupt drivers can cause communication issues between the printer and computer. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website. Software and Drivers for HP DeskJet Plus 4155 All-in-One Printer
  • Printer Queue: Check the printer queue on your computer to see if there are any stuck print jobs. Sometimes, a print job may get stuck in the queue and prevent new jobs from printing. Clearing the print queue may resolve the issue.
  • Printer Settings: Double-check the printer settings on your computer to ensure that the correct printer is selected and that it is set as the default printer. Sometimes, the printer settings may get changed inadvertently, causing printing issues.
  • Restart Devices: Try restarting both your computer and the printer. This can sometimes reset any temporary issues and restore normal operation.
  • USB Port Test: If possible, try connecting the printer to a different computer via USB to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem lies with the printer or the computer.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried some of these, and at this point I've spent several hours trying to get it to work, and some of your suggestions would end up taking a while.

I've bought a  new Canon printer because I've got one of those at home that has worked well.
