After just recently setting up my printer, it won’t turn off when pressing the power button.

Hi @Smcgrann,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer won’t turn off when pressing the power button after a recent setup. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Perform a hard shutdown
Unplug the printer from the power outlet. Wait 30–60 seconds, then plug it back in and try turning it on and off again. This clears temporary firmware or power errors.

Check for pending jobs or alerts
Some printers will stay on if there’s a job in progress or an alert on the display. Cancel any print jobs or clear any error messages before attempting to power off.

Avoid holding the button too long
Press the Power button once firmly instead of holding it. Holding it too long on some models may trigger a reset or alternative function instead of shutting down.

Check firmware updates
Outdated firmware can cause unusual behavior with the power button. Use HP Smart or HP Support Assistant to check for and install the latest firmware for your printer.

Inspect the button for mechanical issues
Make sure the power button isn’t stuck or obstructed. Gently press a few times to confirm it clicks normally.

Test a power cycle
Turn the printer off using the hard shutdown (unplug), wait a minute, then power it back on. After a few minutes of normal operation, try using the power button again.

I hope this helps.
