Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have my printer connected by wireless network to two computers runnings Windows 10.

One PC prints everyrhing with no issues, word documents, pdfs e.t.c

One PC can print from chrome just fine, and can print word documents with fancy text/images fine and certain PDFs will print fine.

However plain text documents will not print at all, and some PDF files will not print at all. The document shows up in print queue for a milliscond then vanishes and nothing prints.

I have followed the below steps from below thread in full and this has not fixed the issue :

Disable UAC:

Here are the steps to configure UAC settings:

  • Open User Account Control Settings by clicking the Start button and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type uac, and then click Change User Account Control settings.
  • To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never notify position, and then click OK.
  • if you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  • You will need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off.

Give Full permission:

  • Press the "Windows logo key" + "r" to get “Run" - Type "spool" and press ok.
  • Right-click on "PRINTERS" - Select "Properties"
  • Select "Security" tab. You will find few entries like "Administrators" and "users", click on "Edit" and give "Full permission" to all the entries. Save / apply the settings.
  • Go to "Devices and printers", right-click on the new printer that you installed and select "Printer properties".
  • Select "Security" tab. You will find few entries like "Administrators" and "users", click on "Edit" and give "Full permission" to all the entries. Save / apply the settings.
  • Restart your computer and then try to print.

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

I have no idea what to do next, or why this is doing this on only one PC.

Please can anyone help me why this is happening?

Please see below examples of word documents that do not print and do print :

Direct links to documents that in some way break the Rules of Participation have been removed from your post.

I can add the following ideas...

Reminders

  • Adobe Reader DC software should be installed (current and functional) even if you do not open / view / print PDF files directly from the software.
  • The Full Feature Software must be installed, current, and fully functional.  Sometimes, in spite all else, the printer software must be reinstalled to ensure it is actually "healthy".

The Doctor is In

Some issues can be resolved using the Doctor:

The Doctor:  HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows

"Just Old"

Version of Office Word and the version of your Windows can impact print jobs - for example, if your Office Word is in need of an update, if the version of the software is old (vintage) or unsupported, if the formatting in the document is not translating to printer language, the document may not print or may look odd (missing text, chopped images).

One obvious candidate for the "Just Old" category:  running ten year old Office software in the latest version of Windows 10.  Maybe it is "supposed" to work - and maybe it will or won't work.  "Just old" can be a thing, though as a "reason", it is more satisfying to know what is failing to reduce unwarranted levels of frustration.

Obviously, if your Office Software is not "just old", ignore these mutterings.

Jobs in Print Queue Disappear

All else being equal, that is, other solutions already checked / applied:

  • Temp folder requires full permissions, including Read / Write, for current user
  • Check / add / edit permissions for user (current login) on Temp folders

C:\Windows\Temp

C:\Users\AccountName\AppData\Local\Temp

Discussion

Text files (.txt) files should print unless they are made with a font that the printer cannot recognize.

Assuming the choice of font is OK, go back and recheck the location (folder) for access,

In general, the printer can only handle True-Type fonts, even when you have "embedded" your fonts into the document.

If the issue is one of "translation", and the format is PDF, try printing the PDF file as an image.

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional  Foxit Reader)

  • HINT: Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software
  • Adobe Reader DC software should be installed even if you do not open / view / print PDF files directly from the software.

Adobe Acrobat Reader Learn & Support

Print as Image

If the file will not print due to unusual content (odd fonts, color schemes, tables, other oddities), print the file as an Image.  Image printing does not require the printer software to translate file content.

Open the offending PDF file in Adobe Reader DC > File > Print > Advanced >>

  1. Set the printer select the colors (Optional)
  2. Print the PDF file as an image

Forgot to mention I have used the HP doctor tool and this says everything is fine.

I have latest version of Office/Word(2019) and Adobe Reader DC. Also WordPad will not work either.

I uninstalled old versions of both Office and Adobe Reader and then installed the latest versions as part of trying to fix the issue.

I don't think temp folder permissions will be the issue as some files do print, but I will check when I get home.

I have also tried several different fonts including times new Roman,  aerial and calibre and none work as just text. However if I make it into fancy wordart style text it works and prints fine.
