I'm running Windows 11 64-bit with every patch as of May 4, 2023. I've just added an HP Smart Tank 7000 to my local network via a 5GHz wifi network and I have to say it is a terrible experience so far. At last, I have the HP Smart app on my Windows desktop able to see the printer. Further, when I open Windows' own printer information, it confirms an "HP 2811EA (Smart Tank 7000 series)" is on my network.
However, whenever I attempt to print a document it goes into the queue and just stays there until it times out with an error. If I want I can remove the document from the queue. Or, if I start Windows' own troubleshooter, suddenly the document gets printed -- quite nicely, to boot! -- and the queue empties, although Windows claims it's unable to communicate with the printer.
Logging into my router and checking for allocated IP addresses shows one additional DHCP lease that wasn't there before I started, so it seems pretty clear to me the printer is connecting to the wifi network okay. And in fact it would have to be, because there's no other way for Windows to deliver the document information to the printer. Why Windows says it can't communicate with the printer, I have no idea.
HP is really letting me down here. This is a completely opaque process. I can't get any visibility on the underlying problem.
And before anyone suggests (a) rebooting the system, (b) rebooting the printer, (c) rebooting the system AND the printer in that order, (d) rebooting the printer AND the system in that order, (e) reinstalling HP Smart, (f) removing and reinstalling the printer... I've already done that. Please assume the basic stuff has already been tried.
If anyone has any information on what's going on here I'd love to know it. Thank you.

Hi @rjhansen,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer works but the driver doesn't on your Windows 11 system with an HP Smart Tank 7001 printer, you may need to update or reinstall the printer driver.
Here are some steps you can try.
Update the Printer Driver.
a. Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box
b. Type "devmgmt.msc" and hit Enter to open the Device Manager
c. Find your printer in the list and right-click on it, then choose "Update driver"
d. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver
Reinstall the Printer Driver.
a. Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box
b. Type "appwiz.cpl" and hit Enter to open the Programs and Features window
c. Find your printer driver in the list of installed programs and right-click on it, then choose "Uninstall"
d. Once the driver is uninstalled, go to the HP website and download the latest driver for your printer model
e. Install the new driver and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
