Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I recently moved. I have my desktop computer and HP office jet pro 6960 connected to the internet. My printer will print from mobile devices but not the desktop. In settings it indicates that the printer is default but offline. How do i get it online? I’ve tried restarting both printer and computer without any luck.

Hi @Flattopsailor,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 back online and allow it to print from your desktop, follow these steps:

1. Check the Printer's Connection Status:

  • Ensure Wi-Fi is Connected:
    • On the printer’s control panel, tap the wireless icon (or network settings) to confirm that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your desktop computer.
  • Re-establish Wi-Fi Connection:
    • If the printer is not connected, re-run the Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer's network settings to reconnect it to Wi-Fi.

2. Update Printer Status in Windows:

  • Manually Bring the Printer Online:
    • On your desktop, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Locate the HP OfficeJet Pro 6960, select it, and click Open queue.
    • In the print queue window, click Printer in the menu bar, and then uncheck Use Printer Offline if it's selected.

3. Restart the Print Spooler Service:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • In the Services window, scroll down and find Print Spooler.
  • Right-click on it, select Restart.
  • After restarting the Print Spooler service, try printing again.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer, then click Remove device.
  • Reinstall the printer:
    • Download the latest drivers for the HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 from the HP support website.
    • Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the printer and set it up again on your network.

5. Assign a Static IP Address:

  • Open your printer’s Network Settings from the control panel.
  • Locate your printer’s IP address and enter it into a browser on your desktop.
  • From the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS), assign a Static IP Address under the network settings. This will ensure that your printer remains connected to the same IP on your network, which can help prevent future connectivity issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
