Hi,
I'm setting up my hp 5107. I've filled the ink cartridges, removed all packaging and installed the printheads as per the instructions.
The printer however shows an error warning that indicates the it can't communicate with printheads. Specifically the tri colour one.
I've tried wiping the heads, reinserting numerous times and restarting about 5 times.
Has anyone got any ideas before I send it back as faulty.

Hi @Printhead27,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering a printhead communication issue on your HP Smart Tank 5107 All-in-One Printer. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot this.
- Check for Obstructions: Ensure there are no protective tapes or plastic covers left on the printheads or cartridges.
- Clean the Printhead Connectors: Even after wiping the printhead itself, ensure that the metal contacts (both on the printhead and the printer) are clean and free from ink buildup or dust. Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to clean the contacts.
- Reinstall the Printheads: Carefully remove the printheads and reinsert them, ensuring they are seated properly and aligned in their slots. Push gently until they click into place.
- Check Ink Cartridges: Make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed and not damaged. Sometimes, faulty cartridges can trigger printhead communication issues.
- Reset the Printer: After reinserting the printheads, reset the printer by turning it off, unplugging it for 30 seconds, then turning it back on.
- Update Firmware: Check if there is any available firmware update for the printer, as this might resolve some communication issues. You can do this via the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP website.
- Try a Different Set of Cartridges: If you have another set of ink cartridges, try swapping them to rule out a faulty cartridge.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
