I tried printing envelopes the other day and when I pulled out the paper tray and put in my # 10 envelopes`, the option on the screen on my printer NO LONGER had the option to change the size of my paper to the # 10 envelopes.

If I go into my HP smart printing app, then setting and then then advanced settings and printer settings, I can change the paper size there and the envelopes print correctly.

However the next time I go to print envelopes I have to go through the whole thing again.

My question is what happened to the paper settings on my printer screen and how do I get it back.

The above settings changes were given to me by HP support, which obviously did not work.

Thanks

== Important ==

One of the steps missing (in the list below) is that of (re)installing the full driver printer software.  This is a vital step and does require that you find and install the full web pack for the printer either from the printer's own support Software & Drivers category or by seeking out the full driver using the standard search and install procedure:

123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site

Ask if you need help -- provide us the Printer Model and your Operating System / version.

-- Try / Consider --

Assign the printer its own manual / static IP address.  Doing so improves stability and reduces "lost printer" syndrome.  If the printer supports Ethernet, use it if possible.

Restart your devices - including (at least) the printer and the computer.  Restart your router if you can stand it.  Restarting devices is simple and can sort minor issues including settings that should be present on the printer's display panel.

If you like, Power Reset the printer --

"Unplug while printer is on →

Wait 60 to 90 seconds →

Plug into a standard wall socket →

Wait for boot or press/release the power button on the printer to boot →

Wait for full boot sequence to complete.

Power Reset can catch and correct minor issues that the simple Restart cannot fix.

Start...

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

OR

HP Laser Printers - Using the Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

-- Reminder --

If asked enter the printer’s PIN number –

The default PIN might be located on the back or inside the printer (ink access area).

See your printer's user guide for additional information.

Search the guide for “ PIN “

EWS – Tray and Paper Management / Paper > Trays

Notes

Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel touchscreen might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray or when the tray is opened and then closed.

Reminders

EWS (Embedded Web Server) provides access and control for Settings, including Tray and Paper.

Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.

-------------------------------------------

Classic EWS - InkJet Printers / Select other printers

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model and EWS version DependentAdvanced section

Click Apply to save changes

The default PIN might be located on the back or inside the printer (ink access area).

See your printer's user guide for additional information.

Open your Browser

Tray and Paper – Paper Size / Paper Type / Paper Weight

Notes

HP Smart / HP App require that paper size / type is rechecked / adjusted before content is opened for print.

Newer printer?  Touchscreen Printer Control Panel locked against making changes?  Try username "admin" and the PIN located on the sticker on the inside of the front door of the printer.

Trays

  • If the printer lacks a second tray, all paper / types are supported in the single available tray.
  • Printers that include a Photo Tray generally restrict the paper sizes and paper type supported in that tray.

Custom size?

If your paper is a custom size, look for "Custom" in the full list of paper sizes.

Remember >> Printers with more than one tray might only support custom paper sizes and types in one of the available trays.

If EWS does not allow setting the paper size or size “Custom”,

If the printer includes a touchscreen display printer control panel,

Look for the setting for “Custom” in the Printer Control Panel after (re)loading the paper to be used

NOTE:  EWS Size Custom is not available for all printers

The full driver does not impact what the printer display panel can do.

The printer's front panel display is explained in the first chapter of the printer's user guide:

User Guide - HP Smart Tank 7600 series

The full driver printer software does impact other aspects of the printer's use, including providing access to the full range of Printing Preferences and populating Printer Properties.

After (re)installing the full driver, make sure the Printer Properties Driver is (still) set correctly.

I cannot solve the "NO LONGER" visible issue -- I'm not familiar with the printer model and do not have access to the hardware to test.

The solutions offered should at least provide you control over how the printer is behaving when you are printing on different sizes and types of paper.

=========================

Printer Software - Full Driver

Reinstall the full driver printer software

-- Note --

If you do not want / need the added information, Scroll down to Web Pack Installation

Details / How-to / Examples

Check / Apply Windows Updates

  • Check / Install any pending Windows Updates
  • If any updates are applied in Windows Updates, Restart your computer and log in

Next,

Uninstall existing printer software

  • Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
  • If your printer software includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
  • Restart the computer and log in.

Install full driver printer software

  • If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

Web Pack Installation - Open Web Page - Full Driver Printer Software

HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only

  • Open the Web Page
  • Download, Save, and Install the software.
  • If using a USB cable to connect the printer to your computer, connect the cable when instructed to do so, near the end of the software installation process.
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Short Version Done

HP Universal Scan Software - Optional

Separately -- Supported on this printer and Windows 11

Installation of the HP Universal Scan Software adds an "HP Scan" self-named shortcut icon to the Desktop.

NOTE

If you have installed the full driver printer software,

And

If the HP Scan that is installed is the "new format" (larger GUI and new layout),

Then

In general, you perhaps do not need to install HP Universal Scan -- the version of HP Scan that installs with the software for this printer is a functional match to the HP Universal Software.

That said, if you can't stand it for any reason, the system will tolerate installing both the full driver and the HP Universal Scan software.

HP Universal Scan Software

Printer Model and Operating System version Dependent >>

When the software is installed, HP Universal Scan Software adds a self-named HP Scan software shortcut to the Desktop.

Note

Where supported, HPUSS can be installed as standalone or installed after the full feature / full solution printer software.

Open website  HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software

If needful, choose a different OS > Open all

Find / Download / Save / Install HP Universal Scan – Full Feature Software and Driver Webpack

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.
