HP Smart Tank 7605 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 11

Hiya Everyone,

I have 120gsm C5 - 162 x 229mm, envelopes, which my HP Smart Tank 6700 Series doesn't seem to have an option for, a C6 option comes up in the list, but not C5.

I tried to make a little test in Word, and it just did not turn out as desired for my envelope template, I always thought Word, or wherever you are printing from, by selecting the paper, that tells the printer, as at first I placed my single envelope on top of my A4 stack of paper, and when I saw the printer register A4 paper, I thought to give it a try, after it didn't work, I placed just the envelope in, to find it did not detect, and there was no option available.

Thank you very much for any help and support!

Hi @Tyler369

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 7605 doesn't have a built-in option for C5 envelopes, which can make formatting tricky. Since the printer recognizes C6 but not C5, you may need to create a custom paper size in your print settings.

Steps to Print on C5 Envelopes

1. Create a Custom Paper Size

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your HP Smart Tank 7605 and select Printing Preferences.
  • Look for Custom Paper Size and enter 162 x 229mm.
  • Save the new size and select it when printing.

2. Adjust Word Document Settings

  • In Microsoft Word, go to Layout > Size.
  • Select More Paper Sizes and enter 162 x 229mm.
  • Ensure the envelope is positioned correctly in the Print Preview.

3. Load the Envelope Correctly

  • Place the envelope in the input tray, ensuring the flap is facing up or down as per the printer’s guide.
  • Adjust the paper guides to fit snugly around the envelope.

4. Try Printing Using HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart App and go to Print Settings.
  • Select Custom Paper Size and enter 162 x 229mm.
  • Print a test page to check alignment.

Let me know if you need further clarification! Hopefully, this helps you print your C5 envelopes correctly. 😊

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

  • Right-click your HP Smart Tank 7605...

You have to left click for a new set of options to appear;

Tyler369_1-1749036995778.png

  • ...and select Printing Preferences.

Tyler369_2-1749037208936.png

  • Look for Custom Paper Size and enter 162 x 229mm.

Within the 'Paper Size' option, you can only select from the following options, I am unable to locate any custom inputting of paper sizing, if I am where you intended me to be?

2. Adjust Word Document Settings

Word already has C5 built in, as per my initial screenshot.

4. Try Printing Using HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart App and go to Print Settings.

I can find "Printer Settings", however I cannot find any "Print Settings" within the HP Smart Desktop App. Within the "Printer Settings" I cannot find any such options for paper sizing.

Browsing everywhere possible, I found my way to this area;

Clicking on 'Advanced' prompts me for a pin from the printer, and upon entering it I find this;

Tyler369_4-1749040211607.png

There is still no custom input to add C5 to our printer, however it does specify "If a print job does not specify a paper size or type" which I'm a little confused about as I would have thought that with Microsoft Word having C5 available and selected, upon sending this to the printer, it would mean it would use C5 and not any printer defaults? I've just tried printing again, confirmed everything, and the printer doesn't start by printing in the center, more aligned to the right, and then cuts off, then shows a red light, probably thinking the paper is larger so is unable to pull it back in again.

I really appreciate your help on this. I am very surprised that HP has not got C5 built in, as it is a very common envelope size and this isn't something I anticipated upon our new printer purchase, I would have thought all this would be more user friendly within the HP Smart App, having previously come here to ask about double-sided document feeder scanning, I found myself requiring another HP app, which wasn't too much of a hassle upon knowing, yet it feels strange to me that it is not built within the HP Smart App as default, along with a C5 option. Voicing this as feedback more to HP, not yourself as an individual, I appreciate your help very much so!

@Tyler369

Your feedback about HP Smart App’s limitations is completely valid.

It would be much more user-friendly if envelope sizes like C5 were built-in.

If you'd like, you can submit feedback directly to HP through their support page. Let me know if any of these steps help! I appreciate your patience while we work through this.

I provided a quite extensive follow up, can you confirm you have seen my complete reply? I mentioned how the steps didn't result in what you intended, providing screenshots to see if they are what you were attempting to advise me to do.

You have suggested that I can add my own custom paper size, and I just cannot seem to locate this option anywhere, I can only select from a set list added by HP, in my previous response I show them all in a table.

This situation is holding me up, so as much as I feel I would like to have this looked into by HP, I could really do with some solution for now. I am fairly new to HP, so I  value your experience, can you confirm I went to the correct places where to ad a custom page size should have been?

Best Regards,

Tyler

It sounds like you're in quite a frustrating spot with this envelope printing issue.

Based on your troubleshooting approach, I can see you're being thorough, and I appreciate that you provided detailed feedback—including screenshots—to clarify what’s happening.

Regarding the custom paper size, printers can sometimes make this tricky, as certain models only allow selection from preset sizes rather than manual entry. Typically, if the option exists, you’d find it under Printer

Properties > Paper/Quality > Custom Size or Print Server Properties (accessible via Control Panel > Devices and Printers).

However, some HP models restrict this entirely, which might explain why you're only seeing preconfigured sizes.

Since this issue is holding you up, here’s something you might try as a workaround:

  • Instead of creating a custom paper size, select a larger preset size (A4 or Letter).
  • Adjust the Print Margins to match the dimensions of a C5 envelope.
  • Manually adjust the envelope's position in the printer tray so it aligns properly when printing.

If HP doesn’t allow manual custom sizing for your model, a software-based workaround (like adjusting PDF margins before printing) might help get this sorted for now.

Does this help at all? I know these limitations can be frustrating, but hopefully, there’s a way to push forward without waiting on HP support.

If you need help testing a workaround, I’m happy to refine the steps with you.

Keep me posted.
