Hp 4655

I have an HP4655. I used to print my business cards from Windows 7 on Avery labels with no problem.

I now have Microsoft Edge (S is turned off).  I try to print the same business card through Publisher and it does not align properly when it prints.

1.  If you have not done so, install the Full Feature Software / full driver for your printer and your current OS.

2.  I do not know what this means.

3.  I've heard that this can happen.

Publisher has been reported by one customer to incorrectly print a borderless label document.  It appeared that Publisher or the Printing Software would lightly inflate the size of the label content (table).   The size change, though minor, resulted in a slight mis-alignment of the borderless (edge-to-edge) content on the printed page.

I could not verify any of it for sure - different printers, different standard paper size, different parts of the world, in fact...

The following is relevant to recent versions of Windows.

Customer with whom I had the conversation was convinced it is a driver problem.

Printing from Publisher:  Customer resolved the issue by slightly reducing the size of the printed content to make up for the suspected inflation in the driver.  Not elegant - custom was satisfied.

What to do?

Not sure - If Publisher is inflating the actual size of the table used in the original document, then Exporting that document to PDF and printing might not help.  In general, document characteristics (like those found in Word and Publisher documents) are saved / kept in the document structure after Export.  What?  If the table created to hold the label structure is not the correct size in Publisher, it won't help to Export that inflated table into PDF format.

What else?

If the driver in the printer is inflating the content / table, then the problem is much trickier to solve.

I've not see this mis-size issue to be the case using Word - but again, different printers and drivers...

Try / Consider...

Make sure the full driver software is installed (requires Windows or MacOS)

Download the Avery Template you want to use in Word format

Open the Word document > Edit the content (create the labels) > Save the file under a name of your choosing

Next,

Use "Save As" and export the document to PDF format

Open and Print the PDF file.

Will that work?

No idea - this is the method I generally use.

Sample / Basics - Print PDF File

Example - Adobe Reader DC

Open document in Reader DC

Click the print icon...

Adjust the settings on the main menu

Click Properties to select the Shortcut and add the paper size

Click OK to save the changes and exit the Properties menu

Back on the main print menu, when ready, click Print

Example - Avery 8873 - PDF Format - Print

>>> Check / Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software

The full driver provides the foundation on which other programs and printing software depend.

Preparation - Install Full Driver Printer Software

If you have not done so,

In addition to the HP Smart application,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.

Make sure your VPN is switched Off when installing software.

Printer Software Check - Is the printer software installed?

Notes

When the full driver printer software is installed,

Find the printer software listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the full printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Printer software installed but not working?

NOTE:  If the printer software shows installed but is not working as expected,

Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

What if?

If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

OR

Revo Uninstaller (Free version)

then

Restart the computer and log in

Reminder:  If using USB, disconnect the USB printer cable between the printer and the computer before installing software.  (Re)Connect the USB cable when instructed to do so near the end of the installation procedure.

Install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

Restart the computer and log in

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start Software wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Open Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software” / "Basic" software
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Optional Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
  2. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the Smart application).  If necessary, select the "Basic" Software.
  3. Skip / Ignore suggestion(s) that you add anything you do not want / need at the moment.  For example, you do not (at the time of installation) need an HP Account and you do not need or want to sign up for Instant Ink just because you are loading the printer software.
  4. Full driver provides access to the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.
