HP ENVY 5546 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Siince purchasing a new Windows 11 computer and connecting my printer, the top of every page is missed off when printing. This happens in all programmes, Word, Excel, Adfobe etc. Is there a fix for this as I cannot find one in settings?

Hi @bigal58,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY 5546 All-in-One Printer is cutting off the top of every printed page after connecting it to a Windows 11 PC, this is likely due to a driver or margin configuration issue. Here's how to fix it:

Step-by-Step Fixes:

1. Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver

2. Check Page Margins in Print Settings

  • In Word, Excel, or Adobe, go to File > Print > Page Setup.
  • Ensure the top margin is not set to 0 or too small (try 1 inch or 2.54 cm).
  • Also, check that the paper size is set correctly (e.g., A4 or Letter).

3. Set the Correct Paper Size in Printer Preferences

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click your HP ENVY 5546 > Manage > Printing Preferences.
  • Under the Paper/Quality or Advanced tab, ensure:
    • Paper size matches your document (e.g., A4 or Letter).
    • Scaling is set to 100% or Fit to Page.

4. Try Printing from the HP Smart App

Add your printer and try printing from there—it often handles margins better.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks for the suggestions. Steps1-3 have been done, 2 & 3 where showing correctly. There is no change to printing in Word or Excel. The problem seems to be that Headers and Footers are not printed. I tried narrowing the top and bottom margins to 1.27cm but this made no difference, it still ignored the header and footer. Previously on Win 11 they printed no problem. Is there a setting that will automatically include them when printing?

Step 4 resolved the problem for pdf files, thanks for that. However you cannot print Microsoft applications through HP Smart.

Hi @Alan_in_Hemel,

Thank you for sharing the printer details. It shows the printer warranty expired in 2017. It looks like it could be a hardware issue with the printer; however, let's try these steps and see if this helps solve the issue.

Completely uninstall the printer driver:

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".
2. Look for HP Printer software.
3. Right-click to uninstall.
4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and Printers”.
5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.
6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).
8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.
9. Look for the HP Printer driver. If you see it, click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.
10. Select Ok.
11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties window.
12. Close Devices and Printers once the software and drivers are removed.
13. Restart the computer.

Then download HP Easy Start from the link below:  HP Easy Start Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

and run HP Easy Start and have to select Full Software and install the printer, and then try.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks for your response, it is hard to see how this could be a printer hardware issue when the only change has been from a Windows 10 to Windows 11 PC.

Put off by the amount of effort required in your solution, I decided to think about this differently. I do not print very often in order to save both costs and environmental impact. So from now on if I do require to print, I will adjust the header and footer on the document/spreadsheet so they now appear in the printed version.

Hi @bigal58,

You're right to take a thoughtful and efficient approach, especially given that your printer was working fine before the move to Windows 11.

That said, if you ever decide to revisit if you require any assistant please keep us posted.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
