HP ENVY Pro 6455 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Have ENVY PRO 6455. Installed new black print cartridge yesterday. Now the printer prints email just fine however when I attempt to print an excel spreadsheet or a word document, it prints a line or two of random letters/characters on a page and moves on to another sheet of paper. Only way to stop the print job seems to be selecting the "X" on the printer next to the output slot. Am out of warranty.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi @HAM2025,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how frustrating it is when your HP ENVY Pro 6455 All-in-One Printer prints emails correctly but produces random characters and multiple blank pages when printing from Excel or Word on Windows 11. You're doing everything right by reaching out, and we’re here to help you resolve this.

Steps to Fix Random Character Printing from Excel/Word

This issue is typically caused by a corrupted print driver, incorrect printer language settings, or communication errors between the printer and Windows.

Step 1: Cancel All Print Jobs

  • Press the “X” button on the printer to stop the current job.
  • On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select “See what’s printing”.
  • Cancel all pending jobs.

Step 2: Uninstall and Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select your HP ENVY Pro 6455 and click Remove device.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Download the latest full driver package from HP:

  1. Install the driver and follow the setup instructions.

Step 3: Use the HP App for Printing

Sometimes, printing directly from Excel or Word can cause formatting issues if the driver isn’t fully compatible.

Step 4: Convert to PDF Before Printing

As a workaround:

  • Save your Excel or Word document as a PDF.
  • Open the PDF and print it using Adobe Reader or the HP app.

This bypasses formatting issues that may occur with Office applications.

Step 5: Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Install any pending updates, especially those related to printer compatibility.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
