Printing envelopes
04-07-2021 01:25 PM

I have noted that some time ago this question was raised, in loading a DL size envelope the printer states its not the correct size after selecting the correct print options from MS Word.
I have downloaded the help programmes and had them check the drivers and software all seems good....from the options window on the printer there is no option to select specific sizes for envelopes as seen on a YouTube video, I am assuming the printer detects the envelope size and takes it from there.
All the necessary sotware is downloaded to my PC, the printer states its software is up to date.
Please can the community advise me on why I cant print envelopes.
thanks

The following assumes the Full Feature Software (full driver printer software) is installed on your computer.
Printer does not always detect paper size / type.
In fact, you need to tell the printer what you are doing.
Load the paper (envelopes) in the printer according to the instructions in the manual.
Pay attention to the "Feed" settings > flap side, orientation (short sides front and back) and Rotation
Pages 18-19
Next,
Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Display Panel
Section is not applicable to printers lacking a printer display panel.
Open Printer Tray,
If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type
Wait a couple of seconds…
Close Tray
IF applicable for your printer:
Look for a message on the Printer Control / Display Panel,
Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK
Note – Printer Display Panel > Adjusting the paper size:
If the size of your Paper Size is not in the Drop-down menu,
Select Custom (likely the last selection in the list)

Embedded Web Server (EWS)
EWS option is applicable to network connected printers.
If the printer is on the network,
If the EWS feature is supported on your printer,
Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / configure your printer.
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management
If applicable, check the Advanced section (at the bottom of the Tray and Paper Management menu)
Click Apply to save changes
NOTES
- Size not listed in the Drop-down menu? Select Custom (likely the last selection in the list)
- EWS is also available in HP Smart Windows and HP Smart Mobile > Settings > Advanced
- Features and options differ by printer model and type.

Set the Preferences – Windows
This section is not applicable to Mobile Printing.
Printing Preferences are available directly from the driver and / or might be called "Printer Properties" / "Shortcuts" (or similar) from within printing software / applications.
Preferences and Envelopes:
Select / leave Printing Preferences shortcut to "Everyday Printing" or something equally benign.

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software
For printers that support the option,
Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.
- Home Page - HP Easy Start
- Open Category Software and Drivers
- Topic: Software-Utility
- Download-and-Save the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
- If using USB: Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
- Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
- Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
- If using USB: Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
- After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.
Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey
- About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
- You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
- If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription. Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
- Full driver provides print and scan functions supported by your printer.

Reminder to those reading:
Custom Sized Envelopes have "other" size restrictions.
For example,
If the envelope is "too short" (not wide enough as you are looking at the envelope face up, side to side)
the envelope size will be rejected and an "alternative" offered based on what the printer can handle.
What does that mean?
As shown in the example, a 5.8 " wide envelope, 4.4 inches tall is not "long enough" on the feed direction.

Thanks for the help.
Neverthe less it does not solve my issue, when I have selected the envelope size in MS Word and go to print, the DL envelopes in the printer are seen as the wrong size/type, I have the full version of thr software I have also run the diagnostics. There must be a software update that will add another function to the window on the printer so i can tell it there is a diffrent size paper inside it and to print, the auto detection just does not function.

You are welcome.
I may not be able to help.
My printer does not support "auto detect" paper size - After I change paper, open-close the tray (tray 2 in the OfficeJet Pro 9025), I must modify / accept the paper size / type settings on the printer panel.
I've had to use Word > Mailings > Envelope > Custom envelope size selection on a #10 envelope on occasion to correct a spurious feed issue that defies other remedies.
I've had to remove (uninstall) non-working printer software and reload it.
What else?
Manual uninstall / restart / install would normally work for non-working software.
If not, the "doctor" will do a couple of extra "checks" and might fix whatever is happening in your system.
If the printer software is installed but possibly not working as expected due to corruption or missing data links, consider:
Use this particular version of the doctor...
Offline Doctor
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe
- Download and Save the doctor to your computer
- Open File Explorer > Navigate to the folder in which you saved the file (likely Downloads)
- Execute the doctor – Answer any prompts / let the process complete
- Restart the computer, log in, and wait for the final steps in the Doctor to finish.
- Check for any difference.
Original Notes – Contributed by ShlomiL
Paraphrased
Connection Issues
- Print and Scan Doctor Version creates a secondary queue for printing with TCP/IP port.
- Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference.
- Try printing and check for any change, if the same remains try printing using the newly added print queue copy (Copy1) and check for any difference.
