Chrome OS

I was able to print using a 2300 series HP printer. Then it quit working. Chromebook recognizes the printer, appears to be printing as per message on the Chromebook, but the printer does not respond; nothing happens. The hp printer is connected by way of USB.

@Klcorcoran, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Chromebook!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are experiencing printing issues with your HP printer connected to a Chromebook via USB, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Verify Printer Connection

  1. Check the USB Cable: Ensure that the USB cable is properly connected to both the printer and the Chromebook. Try using a different USB cable if available.
  2. Restart Devices: Restart both your Chromebook and your HP printer to refresh their settings.

Printer and Chromebook Setup

  1. Update Chrome OS: Ensure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS.
    • Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for Updates.
  2. Re-add Printer
    • Click the clock in the bottom right corner of the Chromebook screen and then click the Settings icon.
    • Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Advanced.
    • Under Printing, click Printers > Add Printer.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to re-add the printer. If the printer does not display, click Add Manually.

Print from Chromebook

  1. Open the Item You Want to Print: Open the document, photo, webpage, or email you want to print.
  2. Select Printer
    • Click the Chrome browser Settings icon and then select Print.
    • Next to Destination, click Change and select your printer.
    • Change any desired print settings and then click Print.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Issue was more complicated. The new printer required updated printer drives which was accomplished through an iPad. Issue was resolved by HP Tech help over the phone.
