Hello,

 

I have a HP Envy printer and for some time I was able to print directly from phone to printer.

It had been some time now that this stopped and with the direct printer option it states "printer isnt available right now" when it really is. The only options offered are PDF which I don't want and printing through HP SMART which I don't want to do as it goes through more servers.

 

What is going on please?

I have restated all devices, up to date etc.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Ensure Both Devices are Connected to the Same Network:

  • Make sure that your phone and the HP Envy printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Direct printing relies on network connectivity, so this step is crucial.

Restart Your Printer:

  • Turn off your HP Envy printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. This can refresh the printer's network connection.

Restart Your Phone:

  • Restart your phone to ensure that there are no temporary software glitches affecting its ability to communicate with the printer.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your HP Envy printer. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve printer performance, including network connectivity.
  • Visit the HP Support website, enter your printer model, and look for firmware updates under the "Drivers and Downloads" section.

Check Printer's Wireless Direct Settings:

  • Ensure that the Wireless Direct feature on your HP Envy printer is enabled. Wireless Direct allows devices to connect directly to the printer without going through a router.

Update HP Smart App (if applicable):

  • If you're using the HP Smart app on your phone, ensure it is updated to the latest version from the app store. Updates can include improvements and bug fixes.

Check Mobile Printing Settings on Printer:

  • Ensure that mobile printing features (like AirPrint for iOS or Google Cloud Print for Android) are enabled on your printer if applicable. These features simplify printing from mobile devices.

Clear Print Queue and Restart:

  • If there are any pending print jobs in the print queue, clear them. Then restart both your printer and your phone before attempting to print again.

Test with Another Device:

  • Try printing from another mobile device to see if the issue is specific to one device or if it affects all connections.

Additional Tips:

Printer Apps and Plugins: Some printers offer dedicated apps or plugins for direct printing from mobile devices. Check if your HP Envy printer has such options and install them if necessary.
