We bought two identical Dell laptops.  After installing the HP drivers for an OfficeJet Pro 8715, one of the laptops prints as it did with our older laptop(s) and desktops.  The other prints like an older DOT matrix printer going line by line slowly until it's finished.  I am about to uninstall the drivers and reinstall it to see if this works to fix this problem.  I have printed from Word, Excel, PDFs, and from the web and it still acts the same from all documents I print.

I can print from the other laptop just as before, pretty fast actually but printing from this laptop takes time - DOT matrix style printing.

This is a new laptop with Windoze 11 with the latest updates.

Thank you.

Hi @raiderreb

Thanks for stopping by the HP community. A very good day to you.  I reviewed the post. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that.  😊

Here are a few steps you can try beyond reinstalling the drivers:

1. Compare Printer Settings

On the faster laptop, check the printer settings (e.g., print quality, resolution, paper type).

Replicate those exact settings on the slower laptop to rule out mismatched configurations.

2. Update or Reinstall Drivers

Fully uninstall the printer driver on the slower laptop:

Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners and remove the printer.

Use Device Manager to uninstall the driver (under “Print queues”).

Download the latest driver for Windows 11 directly from the HP website and install it.

3. Adjust Spooling Settings

Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Right-click the printer > Printer Properties > Advanced tab.

Set the spooling option to "Start printing immediately" instead of "Print directly to the printer." This can help with slow printing issues.

4. Verify Printer Firmware

Check if your printer has a firmware update available on HP's official website. This can resolve performance issues.

5. Test with Another App

Print from a basic app like Notepad to see if the issue is consistent across all programs.

6. Disable Background Processes

Check for resource-intensive background applications on the slower laptop (via Task Manager). These could interfere with printer performance.

7. Print Scan Doctor

HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems.

Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from the link below to quickly and automatically perform several troubleshooting tasks known to resolve this issue.
