Deskjet Ink Advantage 2540
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have this REALLY frustrating problem when it comes to printing pictures with my Deskjet Ink Advantage 2540 All-In-One printer.

Documments works just fine. But when it comes to printing pictures, no matter the size or paper used, it just WONT allow me to print over the whole paper!

It always sizes down the picture. So a picture that should fit the entire A4 page, 30x21cm, becomes at max 28x16cm, making it pixly and all smudged together.

The same goes for printing real photos on a 10x15cm ark of photopaper. It leaves a frame, like one of those instant polaroid cameras do.

HOW do I fix this? No matter what adjustments I make, I can't find anything that lets me correct this!

And the most annoying part is that it hasn't always been this way. When I first installed it, same computor, same operative system, it worked flawless. Then one day it just didn't anymore.

Already tried to reinstall everything and uppdated the software, but nothing has worked.

This printer does not support borderless printing.

There is no override - this is a hardware restriction on this model.

Borderless PrintingNo

The best you can do is to center the print on the paper.

The white border will always be there...

Okay, but if that's the case, then how come this wasn't an issue until about a year ago?

Was it an update that messed it all up?

Because when I first got it, everything worked perfectly. I had no issues with printing pictures whatsoever. It always allowed me to print over the whole page.

Then suddenly, the printer menu looked completely different, and I was no longer allowed to fill the page.

Why is that? Why in the world would that be an update?

It's not even an even border. It's like a Polaroid picture, where the bottom border is thick, like 3cm, and the two long sides are about 1cm. The upper side doesn't get a border.

And there is no way for me to fill up the page within those borders, because when I use that option, the picture will be cut off where the borders are, and I loose a lot of the motive. So the only option left is to shrink it to fit the page, and that makes the picture too small and blurry.  Not to mention that it's impossible to print a photo that will fit in a frame.

This wasn't an issue before, so why is it one now? What's the point with an update like that?

According the to documentation to which I have access:

The printer series does not support borderless printing.

Never did so.

Print Margin Bottom (A4)14.5 mm (via Software); 12.7 mm (AirPrint/UPD)
Print Margin Left (A4)3.2 mm
Print Margin Right (A4)3.2 mm
Print Margin Top (A4)1.5 mm

I do not have a viable explanation to answer your concerns.

I shall withdraw having nothing useful to contribute to the conversation.

Stay Safe.

That's really strange, because it clearly did support it, for at least 3 years before it suddenly didn't anymore.

I just don't understand why. And why that is even a thing that people would want?

Thank you for answering and trying to help anyways.

You stay safe too.
