HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Printer was working fine, but I accidentally deleted print drivers.  Have reinstalled using HP Smart App.  App couldn't validate printer.  Chat said to reboot the printer.  Printer then printed all of my previous print attempts which I cancelled, but to print a new document from laptop, still didn't work with same message, printer not validated.  What is next, since chat bot isn't helping?

Hi @QuiltB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you’re using an HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer with Windows 11, and you've encountered the "Printer not validated" message after accidentally deleting the print drivers. Although you reinstalled the printer using the HP Smart App and rebooted the printer (as advised by virtual chat), the issue persists, and you’re still unable to print new documents.

Let’s resolve this step-by-step.

1. Remove the Printer Completely

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
  2. Click on your HP Officejet Pro 8028 printer > Remove
  3. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers and remove it from there too (if listed)

2. Uninstall HP Smart and Drivers

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps
  2. Uninstall:
    • HP Smart
    • Any other HP-related software (e.g., HP Universal Print Driver)
  3. Restart your computer

3. Reinstall Using Full Driver Package

Instead of using only the HP Smart app, install the full driver and software package: 👉 HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

  • Download and run the installer
  • Follow the prompts to reconnect your printer via Wi-Fi or USB

4. Reinstall HP Smart (Optional)

Once the full driver is installed and the printer is working, HP Smart - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store

  • Reinstall the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store

5. Restart Everything

  • Restart your printerrouter, and PC
  • Try printing a test page from Notepad or Word to confirm it works

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
