Hello @Arthur226, and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're experiencing an issue where your printer is printing gibberish from a Windows 11 ARM64 device, even after installing the Smart Universal Print Driver (SUPD) for ARM64. Let's work through this together.

This issue typically occurs when:

  • The wrong driver is installed (e.g., x86/x64 instead of ARM64).
  • The printer is using a generic or incompatible print language (like PCL or PostScript) that the driver doesn't interpret correctly.
  • The print queue is corrupted or misconfigured.

Recommended Steps to Resolve:

Uninstall the Existing Driver

  1. Press Windows + R, type printmanagement.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Under Custom Filters > All Drivers, locate the SUPD or any other driver related to your printer.
  3. Right-click and choose Remove Driver Package.
  4. Also go to Devices and Printers, remove the printer, and restart your PC.

Download and Install the Correct SUPD for ARM64

Make sure you're using the latest version of the HP Smart Universal Print Driver for ARM64:

HP Smart Universal Printing Driver (SUPD) | HP® Support

Ensure you select the ARM64 version and not x86/x64.

Reinstall the Printer Using the Correct Port

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Click Add a printer or scanner.
  3. If Windows doesn't detect it automatically, click "The printer that I want isn't listed".
  4. Choose Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
  5. Enter the printer's IP address (you can find this from the printer's control panel or configuration page).
  6. When prompted for a driver, click Have Disk and browse to the extracted SUPD ARM64 folder.

Test Print

Try printing a test page from Printer Properties > General > Print Test Page.

If the Issue Persists:

  • Try printing from another app (e.g., Notepad) to isolate the issue.
  • Check if the printer supports PCL6 or PostScript and match that with the SUPD variant.
  • If the printer is older, consider using a Basic PCL6 driver instead of SUPD.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!

Thank you.  I've previously reinstalled drivers several times, so I skipped that.  But followed your advice re: uninstalling and reconnecting printer manually using host name.  Printed normally.  Hopefully the fix will stick.  Much appreciate the advice.
