HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having a terrible time trying to install the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer Full Software Package on my Dell computer and connecting the printer to the computer via my home wireless network.

Basically, the installation software seems to take me in a loop.  It says the software and drivers are successfully installed and the printer is connected but then takes me to a step to create or sign in to HP Connect to finish installation but when I connect to my account there are no apparent actions to take other than cancel or continue.  If I cancel and try to launch the software it takes me back to options to reinstall a new device or to reconfigure a connected device.  Continue takes me to the HP Connect create account or sign in options again.

I've had ths problem before when I removed and reinstalled the SW and can't believe HP doesn't have a cleaner installation process or better instructions.  It just seems like whatever I do, I get back to the reinstallation/reconfiguration options but it never completes.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

@Crash51,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues related to HP Printer. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Did you try to run HP Print and Scan Doctor?

Let’s start by performing a network power drain. Follow the steps below:

Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.

Wait for 2-3 minutes.

Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.

Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.

Then turn on the PC and other devices.

If you are facing any issue while using the printer then try using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to this link: HP Printers - Using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)  to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.

This definitely looks like an issue with the software/driver conflict. In this scenario, I would suggest here is to do a clean install of the printer software first and check.

If the issue persists, let's try to uninstall the printer drivers and then install it using Windows built-in drivers.

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!
