Hi. I have a new shiny HP Deskjet 3700. i downloaded the HP Smart. But cannot get my computer to print. Let me explain

My iPhone connects and prints beautifully. which means the printer is inked up and working. However when I try to print from my PC eg from outlook or Word. the printer spits out a blank page, So I reason that the computer is connected to the printer but the printer will not accept the document. this has to be a software set up issue.

Could it be that i downloaded the wrong HP software onto my PC, perhaps an app and not a windows !! version?

any advise would be very gratefully received.

Hi @nightdiver18 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've done the right steps by downloading the HP Smart app, but there may be some configuration issues on your PC. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is connected to your PC either via USB or wirelessly.

Printer Status:

  • Check the printer status on your PC. Open the Control Panel, go to "Devices and Printers," and make sure your HP Deskjet 3700 is set as the default printer.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your HP Deskjet 3700. You can download the latest drivers from the official HP website.

Reinstall HP Smart:

  • Uninstall the HP Smart app from your PC, restart your computer, and then reinstall the app. Make sure you download the version compatible with your operating system.

Print Test Page:

  • Try printing a test page from your PC to check if it's a specific issue with Outlook or Word. If the test page also comes out blank, there might be a more general issue with the printer connection or drivers.

Printer Troubleshooter:

  • Use the built-in Windows Printer Troubleshooter. This tool can help identify and fix common printing problems. You can find it in the Control Panel under "Troubleshooting."

Check Ink Levels:

  • Ensure that your ink cartridges are not empty. The fact that your iPhone can print suggests that the printer is capable, but it's worth confirming the ink levels.

Update Windows:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, updating your OS can resolve compatibility issues.

Firewall/Antivirus:

  • Check your firewall or antivirus settings to ensure they are not blocking the communication between your PC and the printer.

Print from Another Application:

  • Try printing from a different application on your PC to see if the issue is specific to Outlook or Word.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
