HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw

I recently purchased a new laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 11 in S mode.  We had problems downloading Google and even HP Smart from the MS Store.  A MS technical support member eventually helped us upgrade the new laptop to the full version of Windows 11 and apply all outstanding updates (as of 6/17).  We had purchased a HP Color LaserJet (MFP M283fdw, S/N:[Personal Information Removed]) about a year ago and had used it with a desktop system that was running a version of Windows 10.   After upgrading to full Windows 11, we have not been able to print or scan in 2-sided mode.

We have tried to locate and update to the most recent version of the driver associated with the printer.  We tried doing so via HP Smart and directly from the HP website.  I think we began with attempting to download the driver from the MS Store, even after upgrading to full Windows 11, but I’m not sure about that since we’ve had many problems with using the MS Store.  At any rate, with the version of the printer driver we are using, we do not see the “print on both side” option when trying to print via Windows, nor do we see the “2-sided scan” option when trying to scan from the LaserJet.

Can anyone provide guidance on how to (re)enable the ability to use the duplex options with this MFP device and Windows 11?

Thank you.

Hi @BryanSwallow,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with your HP Color LaserJet (MFP M283fdw printing and scanning two-sided.

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw has specific capabilities when it comes to duplex printing and scanning. Here are the details:

Printing:

  • Duplex Printing: Yes, the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw supports automatic duplex printing. This means it can print on both sides of the paper automatically without requiring manual intervention.

Scanning:

  • Duplex Scanning: No, the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw does not support automatic duplex scanning. It has an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), but it does not have a built-in duplex scanning feature. To scan both sides of a document, you will need to manually flip the pages and scan the other side.

Summary:

  • Automatic Duplex Printing: Yes
  • Automatic Duplex Scanning: No

Keep me posted for further assistance.
