I have an HP Deskjet 5550, connected via parallel cable, which works. I am trying to get a Deskjet 5652 working, so I've moved the inks and the parallel cable across. There is signs of life - the carriage takes the inks back and forth across the full width of the printer. There is also a light on the left side flashing. If I go to the Windows Start button and select Devices and Printers, the 5652 shows but has an Exclamation Mark (!). The status states the door is open. The HP Printer Doctor thing lists both the 5550 and 5652 printer, and I select the latter, but that is about as far as testing goes.

Has anyone got any suggestions please? Thankyou

This is not a reply, but an update. In my fiddling with this, the Door Open indication has gone, but otherwise the situation is the same. My fiddling included loading the s/w from the CD, but that caused other problems so I had to uninstall it. HP Print and Scan Doctor still sees both printers although the 5550 printer is not connected by a cable to the pc now, nor is it powered up, but the Doctor still doesn't get any further than it did.
