LaserJet Pro P1102w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Trying to re-install LaserJet Pro P1102w for wireless printing from a Windows 10 (20H2) laptop. Was printing only last week, but McAfee inexplicably blocked the Microsoft print spooler.  After we found and fixed that problem, it still would not print. We verified McAfee is not blocking anything else when printing is attempted.

Verified that the printer is connected to the router and that the laptop can ping the printer's assigned IP address.  Further, the laptop's browser can access the printer's embedded Web server and print the standard reports.  Therefore this is not a wireless-connectivity problem. Steps we took trying to fix the problem:

1) Uninstalled the printer (from Windows, not physically).
2) Re-ran the driver installer, "hp_LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution-v20120831-50157036_SMO.exe," to produce a named driver folder in the root of the C:\ drive.
3) Ran the Windows printer wizard to install a "New" printer.
4) Told it "Have disk," and pointed it to the INF file in the root of this new driver directory. This produced a new list of printers including the P1102w.
5) Selected the correct printer from this list.
6) Told the wizard to connect by TCP/IP, gave it the correct IP address, and gave it the port number, 9100, specified in the user guide for the printer.  Installation appeared to go well, and a printer queue for the named printer appeared in Device Manager.
7) Still cannot print a test page, but the error message gives no further information.

Question:  Shouldn't there be a separate listing in Device Manager for the printer itself that shows the printer driver in use? If so, I cannot find it.

Suggestions would be most appreciated! -- jclarkw

Hi@jclarkw, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Try these steps to re-install the printer driver -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type, and open “Devices and Printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

14. Download and install the software and drivers from Here

15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Dear Praveenbv -- First I tried to update the (very old) firmware, but that failed -- see post at https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/Firmware-quot-Failed-to-Update-quot-HP-...  Can you also help with this problem? -- jclarkw

Dear Praveenbv -- No Joy!

I followed your 15 steps as best I could, with the following exceptions:

     3) There was no HP Printer software to uninstall.

     9)  I removed  two entries that mentioned the P1102w specifically.  There were two entries for an Officejet Pro 8620 that is also installed and must remain.  There were also two non-specific HP "class" drivers that I left alone, as I don't know where they might be needed.

     14)  I don't know what you mean by the "install" here, but...

     15) I double-clicked the downloaded "hp_LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution-v20180815-50157037.exe" file with the following results:

a) This unpacked a directory at "C:\LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution" but did not present any "on-screen instructions."

b) I went into the above directory and read "autorun.inf" in Notepad.  It's pretty short.

c) I double-clicked on the "P1100_P1560_P1600.exe" file indicated in the "open=" line.  Again no "on-screen instructions" nor any other action that I could detect.  There is still no new printer installed.

Next I plan to try the Windows printer wizard to install a new printer from one of the INF files in the newly expanded directory mentioned above... -- jclarkw

Dear Praveenbv -- SUCCESS!

FYI, after the above report, I ran the New Printer wizard from Windows, and its automatic search found two printers:

"HP Laserjet Pro P1102w" and

"NPI0D3E79 (HP Laserjet Pro P1102w)".

Fortunately I noticed the NPI0D3E79 string under Network Information/Host Name in the previously-printed test/configuration page from the printers Web server, so I selected that one for Windows to install.  (We had long ago installed the printer as a TCP/IP on the local network.)

Now it prints!

At least some of your trouble-shooting steps must have done the trick.  Now it remains to update the printers FW, if I can find out how...

One more question about that:  If I do update the FW successfully, with that disconnect the printer from my network?  If so, maybe it's not worth the trouble, as I'm not sure how to reconnect it! -- jclarkw

Hi@jclarkw,

Please find the document to connect to the network.
