HP Z240
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Been going in circles installing 8610 under Win 10. HP 8610 is hardwired to router, not wireless. I downloaded & ran OJ8600_1316.exe Install seems to go well, but Win 10 only sees 8610 as scanner, not printer. When I run HP Officejet 8610 Pro software, it does not recognize the 8610 & tries another install; it does come up with successful installation message. When I run DEVICES & PRINTERS, 8610 shows up as a scanner. Please note the 8610 used to work well on this Win 10 HP z240, however, I had to reinstall as I wanted to use the UI to manage the 8610. Also went in & did a complete UNINSTALL of all software related to 8610 & reinstalled. Same problem. 8610 shows as scanner, not printer. Any pointers to remedy this are much appreciated!

Welcome to HP support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

I sent an email last week, but not sure if it wen through from my iPhone.

Thanks for the steps.  Went through same steps as in past tries.  The 8610 is getting installed as a scanner only.  8610 needs a print driver for Win 10.  Not sure what to do next to get the driver.

When I run OFFICEJET PRO app, it wants to do another install & the app cannot find the 8610 as connected via Ethernet cable.

Not sure where to go/do to remedy the problem.  Prior to running through the instructions, I removed all software via PROGRAMS & FEATURES.  Then did the install via the downloaded OJ8610_198.

Open for advice!!
