HP Envy 6110e All-in-One Printer

Every time I print an alignment page and place it on the scanner, I click "Next" and it just says "Cartridge alignment, scanning alignment page." It stays like that for 20 minutes or more, but nothing happens.

I've repeated the process multiple times, restarted the printer, and tried again, but it doesn’t work.
The printer can print from my computer (Mac Mini M2, macOS 15.3.1 , Sequoia ), but I can’t proceed on the printer itself or use the printer’s screen.

Any help would be appreciated!

@afalden, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy 6110e is getting stuck on "scanning the alignment page," it may indicate an issue with the scanner or a glitch in the firmware/software. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

Step 1: Confirm Scanner Functionality

Let’s verify if the scanner works outside of the alignment process:

  1. Open Preview or Image Capture on your Mac.
  2. Try to scan a document or photo using the printer’s scanner.

👉 If scanning fails or the scanner hangs here too, the scanner hardware may be malfunctioning.

Step 2: Skip Alignment and Use the Printer

If the cartridges are printing fine and you’re able to use the printer, alignment isn’t absolutely necessary unless:

  • Printouts are misaligned
  • Color output looks off

You can often skip alignment in these cases:

  1. In the HP Smart app, go to Printer Settings > Tools > Align Cartridges, and just cancel or bypass if it's not required.
  2. You may also be able to disable cartridge alignment reminders under the Maintenance or Settings > Preferences section on the printer (if the display is responsive).

Step 3: Update Firmware

HP frequently releases firmware updates that can fix glitches:

  1. Download the latest firmware from the HP Envy 6110e firmware page.
  2. Install it via the HP Smart app or the standalone firmware updater.
  3. Restart the printer afterward.

Step 4: Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)

If you have access to a Windows machine, running HP Print and Scan Doctor might help resolve internal alignment or scanning issues. This tool can sometimes reset stuck processes.

Step 5: Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

If nothing else works:

  1. On the printer touchscreen, go to Setup (gear icon).
  2. Tap Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  3. Set it up again via HP Smart after resetting.

⚠️ Note: This will erase Wi-Fi settings and preferences, but it often clears persistent alignment or scanner lock-up bugs.

Check Scanner Glass

Make sure:

  • The alignment page is placed face down in the top-left corner of the scanner.
  • The scanner lid is firmly closed.
  • The scanner glass is clean and not scratched or dusty.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
