Hello,

I am having an issue with my HP OfficeJet 6950 All-in-One Printer.

Serial Number: Edited

The printer is not working correctly (please describe if it's a paper jam, ink error, or won't turn on). I have already checked the support page, but since my warranty is expired, I am looking for guidance on how to fix this or if there are specific parts I need to replace.

Could someone please help me with the troubleshooting steps?

Thank you!

Hi @sultonmusic,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 6950 is not working correctly, and you’re looking for guidance on what to check next. Let’s go through a few checks.

Before we begin, please confirm:

Is the printer showing a specific error message on the screen?

Is the issue related to paper jam, ink error, print quality, or the printer not powering on?

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Perform a Full Power Reset

  • Turn the printer ON.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  • Turn the printer back ON and check the display.
  • This clears temporary internal errors.

Step 2: Check for Paper Jam (Even If No Message Appears)

  • Remove all paper from the input tray.
  • Open the rear access door or duplexer.
  • Gently remove any jammed paper using both hands.
  • Check inside the cartridge access area for small torn pieces.
  • Reinstall the rear door securely.
  • Reload plain paper and test print.

Note: Even a small paper fragment can prevent printing.

Step 3: Check Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Wait until the carriage stops moving.
  • Remove each cartridge.
  • Ensure all protective tape is removed from the copper contacts.
  • Reinstall cartridges firmly until they click.
  • Close the door and wait for initialization.
  • If you see an “Incompatible” or “Cartridge Problem” message, note which color is mentioned.

Step 4: Print a Printer Status Report

  • On the printer control panel, open Setup.
  • Select Reports.
  • Choose Printer Status Report or Print Quality Report.
  • Review the report for error codes or missing colors.
  • If the printer does not power on at all:
  • Try a different wall outlet.
  • Try a different power cable (if available and compatible).

If you can share the exact message displayed on the screen, the troubleshooting can be narrowed down to the specific issue.

I hope this helps.
