  • I have an older printer, LaserJet Pro MFP M127fn. I had been running it over ethernet from  a MacBook with  no problems. I just upgraded to MACOS Sonoma  15.3.1. I have had repeated problems with the Printer not responding. I have set it up with the network address rather than the name and thought it was working. Today I logged on again the problem repeats with the message "printer is not responding."

Hi @dwh-az77,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Restart Everything

  • Restart your printer, router, and MacBook.
  • Wait a few minutes, then try printing again.

Check Network Connection

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel.
  • Ensure the printer has a valid IP address (something like 192.168.x.x).
  • On your Mac, go to System Settings > Network and confirm your Mac is on the same network as the printer.

Re-add the Printer

  1. Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select your LaserJet Pro MFP M127fn and click Remove Printer (–).
  3. Click Add Printer (+) and select your printer using the IP address (not Bonjour).
  4. Choose HP LaserJet driver instead of AirPrint, if available.
  5. Click Add and test printing.

Install Updated HP Drivers

  • Download and install the latest HP Easy Admin Software or HP Printer Drivers for macOS from HP’s official website.
  • Some older printers need HP Smart or third-party drivers to work with macOS Sonoma.

Reset Printing System

If the issue persists:

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click in the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
  3. Re-add the printer.

If the problem continues, let me know what error messages you're getting, and I’ll help further! 😊

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍
