Officejet 7110
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I installed the latest firmware ( 2020D-2021B from 3 june 2020 ) on an Officejet 7110 which adresses some security issues in the network component. The printer worked fine without any issues before this firmware update, however now after several hours (5-6 hours) all the lights on the printer start flashing and the network interface does not responds anymore to a ping. Pushing the On/Off button turns off and on the printer and it responds again to the ping and prints the new jobs. However the same issue occurs again after 5-6 hours and you have to Off/On the printer again.

As I wrote before, the printer worked without any issue before this firmware update. Is it possible you can fix this issue with a new firmware or can you send me an old firmware to downgrade the printer ?

Regards

@GeorgesGoebel, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
  • Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion however I did that already and even reset the network configuration as described in the user guide (hold wifi button and cancel button for 5 sec).

The printer is connected with a cable and not wifi.

The problems only occurred after firmware upgrade. With the old firmware the printer worked excellent. Is it possible to do a firmware downgrade to be able again to use the printer correctly ?

Hi,

I checked also the event log and there is a new entry "69666 Firmware Error" after restarting the printer. (see picture attached to message)

Do you have any ideas how to fix the firmware issue or how to downgrade the firmware ?

Hi,

After looking the internet for a solution, I managed to perform a downgrade and it seems the printer does work again without failing after 2-3 hours. Here is what I did :

1) I downloaded the firmware OJ7110_R1616.exe from the internet (just google for the filename)

2) Open the OJ7110_R1616.exe file with a zip program (f.ex 7-zip)

3) Extract the files to a folder

4) share the printer on the PC with a name f.ex officejet

5) copy the firmware file (inside a subfolder of the extracted folder) to the printer with the commandeshell :  copy /b nameofthefirmawarefile \\locahost\officejet

6) The lights are blinking on the printer an the firmware is downgraded

It worked for me and till now the printer seems fine again.
