I have been trying to install the HP Easy Start full feature drivers for my printer.  I get so far and then it stops with a blank screen.  I have uninstalled everything HP related and reinstalled, restarted the computer and and tried a different order to installing, uninstalling etc.  I don't know what else to do.

Welcome to the HP Community --

I've not been able to get Easy Start to work consistently for a long time.

Yes, I've seen that blank screen.

Sometimes it works to "X" out of the blank screen and then try to continue.

What else?

For example, you might see the blank screen, X out of the screen and later...

Rats. 🐀🐀

Better than fighting with stubborn software...

Try the "Offline" web pack -- it might work, it's the same printer software, in fact.

Preparation

Uninstall any bits of software that might be stuck / leftover from a previous installation attempt

AND

Restart the computer and log in

Printer - Printer Software - Windows

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver generally adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant and HP Scan.

NOTES

  • HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan
  • If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver. No Sign-in required.

I have tried both versions without success.  I will keep trying though.

How do I "Uninstall any bits of software that might be stuck / leftover from a previous installation attempt"?

Programs in the Control Panel don't list any HP programs.  Should I go into device manager and uninstall the printer driver from there?

I really find this problem annoying since it's an HP printer and HP software and my computer is brand new but it won't work.  I can install HP Smart without an problem but it doesn't give me all the features (unless they are hidden) that I want to use.  There should be a better solution for this.

@Robin107

I agree that it should be easier.  No -- I don't have a way to make it do that.

I don't know the trigger that is the underlying cause of the problem.

True - I don't know the process that well or beyond what I've been able to dig out of my own system logs.

I might be missing the magic.

Let's ask a true Expert in the art of installing Printer Software using Easy Start packages - online and offline:

@greenturtle  -

Dragon here - I remembered to suggest the Offline package -- not working yet - any words of wisdom??  TIA.

Continuing...

Assigning the printer its own IP address, and connecting with Ethernet to a robust network seems to help.

Here is a (personally) compiled list of places to look to pry leftover bits of unwanted software out of the system:

Example - Check and Remove

I managed to somehow get to the 'Server Connection Lost' screen.  Retry doesn't do anything nor does 'Skip to Software Download'.

In case it matters, I am using a mesh router setup.  I don't have an ethernet cable long enough to reach the printer from the router.

Hi @Dragon-Fur , will try to help.

Hi @Robin107

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Can we ensure that the WIndows 11 has the latest updates?  Then try to install the offline drivers after that?

Do a wireless reset on the printer before attempting to install again.

This resource (example) would be useful:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVG4Vt3mL6s

Uninstall the current drivers first, these resource would provide some guidance on how to do that:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlasAOAgL_0

Questions:

1. What's the mesh router brand and models ?

2. Are the SSIDs the same or different?

3. Would it be possible to move the printer nearer to the router, install and then observe if it's getting disconnected (because printer is out of range?)

If all else fails, HP Smart may be the only alternative.  Download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store, install and setup the printer.

Hope that helps!

@greenturtle

Thanks -- I appreciate your time.

All good questions, of course, and those I've asked in the past, though not in this instance.

I need better notes or macros.  Smiling.

Except -- I did forget this one...

@Robin107  has just said they are using a Mesh network -- had I known that, I'd never have responded.

The mesh network concerns me -- I've not had success helping anyone with a printer that won't stay connected to this type of singular SSID environment.  That includes installing software (Web Pack or Easy Start) and / or connecting the printer to the network (and keeping it there).

I will remember to mention this first going forward.

Thanks for all the input.  I have decided that this is not worth the amount of time needed to solve.  I have no idea if any of the suggestions would work... maybe.

As I said earlier, this shouldn't be so difficult.

I get it.

I agree -- it should not be difficult.

I don't have the magic at the moment.

If you feel like dealing with it later, try it and let me know your results.
