Officejet Pro 8210
Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

Hello,

I have followed the instructions for installing my new printer on my MacBook Pro (Retina 13 inch 2013 with version OS-X 10.9.5). I unpacked the zip file and followed the HP Easy Start. I have chosen for connection by USB cable and not wireless.

I received the message that everything is OK but I cannot print from my laptop. Nothing happens. On my MacBook Pro I have indicated the new HP 8210 as default printer and I see it is on green but stus "inactive".

I have repeated this a couple of times but impossible to print. I tried with 2 different usb cables but no result.

I don't have other devices like smartphones or tablets and so I don't wish to install wireless but only by usb cable.

What could be the problem and how to solve?

Thanks for all help!

@muesli, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Going through your post I see that the printer is unable to print from your Mac computer to the printer.

Let us try to isolate and resolve the issue-

Go to System Information to check the USB detection- try different port and cable if not detected.

Is there any antivirus/security software installed on the computer? If yes, try disabling it and print.

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Let me know the outcome.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I have been on the phone for almost one week now with HP support services and tried lots of things without succes.

I posted the same question yesterday on Apple community and they recommended to upgrade from Mavericks to Sierra or Mojave. The information provided by HP that OS-X 10.9 (Mavericks) should be supported and work with the ojp 8210 is not correct.

So I did the huge work to upgrade my MacBook Pro to Sierra (10.12) and now the printer works.
