HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw

I recently received a message from Apple that I have HP software on my Mac desktop that will soon not work with Apple software. I operate OS15.3 Sequoia. The message suggested that I contact HP about this issue. Will HP be issuing updated printer software that will allow my printer to continue to operate? I recently lost access to a Brother scanner due to a similar issue. I don't want to have to keep purchasing new hardware.

@JaisMick, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check for HP Software Updates

HP might have released new drivers or software updates for your printer model that are compatible with the latest macOS version.

  • Go to HP’s official website and visit the Support section for your printer model.
  • Download the latest macOS driver or software package.
  • Make sure to uninstall any older versions before installing the new one.

Use HP Smart App

HP has a Smart app that may be able to help bypass the traditional printer drivers:

  • Download the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
  • Once installed, open it and follow the prompts to add your printer.
  • The HP Smart app can be a more flexible way of handling printing and scanning, especially as macOS updates come into play.

Reinstall the Printer Software

If you have an existing driver that’s giving issues:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Remove your printer by selecting it and clicking the minus button.
  • Restart your Mac and reinstall the latest HP software or drivers.

Note: Sometimes, macOS updates remove or alter the compatibility of the printer software, so reinstalling it from the latest package can resolve some issues.

Check for macOS Compatibility

If HP hasn't issued updated software yet, it may be because the printer model is no longer supported. You can check the printer's compatibility with macOS 15.3 Sequoia by looking at:

  • HP’s support page for your specific printer.
  • Apple’s Support page for known compatibility issues with printers on the latest macOS versio

Consider AirPrint (For Basic Printing)

AirPrint is a wireless printing feature built into many HP printers. Even without specific HP drivers, you can try:

  • Ensuring your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
  • In System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, see if your printer is listed with AirPrint as the driver option.
  • If it is, try printing through AirPrint, which may bypass the need for additional software.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
