HP Envy 6555e All-in-One Printer
Ubuntu LTS

I have a new Envy 6555e printer I'm using on Ubuntu 24.04. It is basically working in initial tests but I don't understand some hopefully trivial aspects of the system  behavior:

After I bring up the "Add Printer" panel in the Settings app, I can add the printer,  and I can print a test page. The odd thing is that in my list of added printers I have two entries, apparently referring to the same printer. One is named "Envy-6500e" and the Printer Details display shows it to be driverless. The other is named "HP_Envy_6500e_series_AAC1A6" and Printer Details shows it to have a driver, named "HP Envy 6500e series". I'm guessing these are for two different protocols but the only one I am aware of would be IPP since (using the device's embedded web server) I turned off the port 9100 printing. As you can tell the depth of my printing knowledge is no more than skin deep.

Anyway so far I haven't seen any indications of malfunction when printing test pages, but I've only had this device for like one day. I'd appreciate any info to ease my troubled mind about this printer. 😊

Hi @zeke56

If the printer is working normally then you should continue use.

Maybe that two printers are automatically added in Ubuntu to have the option to connect your printer with USB cable, and the other is option is wireless connection.

If the printer is working fine, 😊 if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thanks @FerRX ! One more odd thing, or at least something I don't understand - I can print a test page from the Printer Options panel of the second printer even tho the printer Details panel tells me the address is "null". Whatever that means.

Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'm going to let it go for now assuming more realistic tests are ok ...😊

regards
