@ashu_b

Ashu,

I notice you work for HP, if this is the case you would know quite a lot about this product. Could you tell me how long you'd expect a battery to charge from 0% - 100% using the USB? You can be as techincal as you like, for example, what sort of typical current would flow when charging. Is there anything "software" wise that might reduce this charge rate? I say software wise as in the printers firmware, battery authentication for example.

Hello @diagnosis7919

Reference to the product specification at maxi it will take 4 hours to charge the battery using USB. The battery will be charged at 0.70A constant current until it reaches 12.45V.

Hope the information above helps.

Thank You & Best Regards,

Thank you @Mallynn, This is a good response! It confirms my printer has a charging issue as it will not charge on the AC and very slowly on USB, 0.2A or 1W to be precise. Despite purchasing another genuine HP battery my fault remains. What makes my printer stand out is how little use it has had (See attached screen grab). If I read right this counter can't be reset or altered. I have printed off probably 8-10 of those pages since repairing the paperfeed motor which was simply loose. I think this printer was faulty from the day it was purchased but I do not know why it wasn't returned to HP. The printer serial number is TH76L480MH and the warranty ran from 24th Aug 2017 to 22nd Oct 2018. If the printer had processed in excess of 100's pages then I wouldn't make a fuss but it shows just how weak this unit is. Of course, I have the test equipment and the knowledge to repair but not the time, I'd rather like it's mobile nature to work for my mobile auto business I'm starting. Yes, you will argue it's out of warranty but I think this unit was clearly faulty from purchase. Be interesting to see what HP's stance is on this problem.

But thanks again for the info..

regards

Nick

Hello @diagnosis7919,

I am sorry that your printer is having charging issue for the battery. Also I can imagine how inconvenient it have been that it is taking more than the required time to fully charge the battery. Thanks for sharing your experience, although it has left you less than satisfied. You mentioned that this printer was previously repaired due to paperfeed motor, has this issue been resolved?

You may want to contact the HP Support at this link:hp.com/contactHP for further assistance.

Best Regards,

I fixed the paper feed motor and then dabbed some thread lock on the two motor securing screws so they don't come undone again. Unfortunately without a circuit in front of me, fixing the charging issue would take a long time.. My options is to remove the internal  charging and fit something not linked to the printer, a simple CV/CI boost buck dc-dc converter would work perfectly Or, hp gives me the option to buy a new circuit board.
