I have virtually the same problem with an Officejet Pro 8620. Endless problems installing it wirelessly on new (Win 10) computer. Either won't install despite being found instantly or apparently installs but always experiences a printing error and I get nothing out. Printer still working perfectly over wifi with other computers. Said 'Driver Unavailable' at early stages. Now full package apparently installs up until stage 3 when the installer mysteriously cannot find any internet connection. The url given just leads to installer software for a different model. Print Dr helpfully says it's a software problem it can't fix. Tearing my hair out. I tried the root level removal advocated above but it didn't help. This kind of thing has popped up every couple of years. It may well be a problem with a recent Win 10 change, but can anyone help?

Welcome to the HP support community.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
-
Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
-
Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
-
If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
-
If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
-
-
If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
-
If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.
-
Try to print.
Assign a manual IP address and that should fix the issue.
A Network Configuration Page lists important network settings such as network status and the printer IP address.
-
Load plain white paper into the input tray.
-
On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon
, and then touch the Settings icon
.
-
Touch Print Reports, and then touch Network Configuration Page.
Setting a Static IP Address
Once you know your printer’s IP address from the page you printed, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:
- Run your Web browser.
- In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
- Click the Networking tab.
- Under Connections, click Wireless.
- Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
- Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
- Click Apply.
