I started seeing this exact issue and behavior on my printer after a firmware update.

I could get it to print a print quality diagnostic page, after many tries, and it looks okay, but otherwise I'm seeing the exact same symptoms.

Hi @ejayd,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that the B8157CEE error on the HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 is a known issue typically tied to a firmware crash or a failure of the internal formatter board. Because it occurs after an update and allows diagnostic pages, it points to a corrupt firmware partition rather than a broken printhead.

Recommended Troubleshooting Steps

Execute these steps sequentially to recover the printer's firmware and clear the fault:

1. Hard Power Reset

Sometimes, temporary residual power keeps the printer locked in an error loop.

  • While the printer is powered on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the device.

  • Unplug the other end from the wall outlet.

  • Wait a full 60 seconds.

  • Plug the power cord directly back into the wall outlet and connect it to the printer. Allow it to initialise.

2. Perform a Firmware Recovery

Since a prior update corrupted the system, triggering an alternate firmware flash can restore functionality.

  • Ensure your printer is connected to your computer via a standard USB cable directly, bypassing your wireless network.

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Official HP® Support, enter your printer model, and download the latest firmware update file.

  • Run the executable installer from your computer. Choose the USB installation method (if prompted) and let the update push through physically. This often forces the formatter board to overwrite the corrupted firmware code.

3. Hidden Support Menu Reset (Semi-Full Reset)

If the power cycle doesn’t work, perform a deeper reset to clear internal settings:

  • Tap the upper left corner of the printer’s control panel (the "Back" area) 4 times to open the Engineering/Support Menu.

  • Navigate to the Resets menu or System Configuration Menu.

  • Look for a Semi-Full Reset or OOBE (Out Of Box Experience) Reset.

  • Confirm the reset and let the printer reboot. Note that this will erase all stored network settings and user preferences.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
