I have the same issue with a new (late-Sept. 2021) 9018e printer. Also tried the firmware update without any change. Unless there’s a fix, I’m considering returning it and selecting a different product. The sound of the cartridge reset is loud enough to be heard across the house.

Hi again, Jay_G24,
I appreciate your follow up message. Oddly enough. the issue has been resolved since the afternoon of 10/5/2021. That afternoon, I used the machine to scan a couple of documents. In that process, I ran into an issue trying to scan a non-standard size item and at one point the machine instructed me to shutdown and restart the machine using the power button on the top edge of the device. After depressing and releasing the power button to turn it off, the machine ran a fairly long (1-2 minutes or so?) shutting down sequence (indicated by a message and a spinning wheel). I left the machine off for about 30 seconds to a minute and then turned it back on using the power button. A slightly less long start up sequence then ran (also showing a spinning wheel and message for a bit) and the machine was back online. Ever since that power-down/power-up sequence using the power button, I've not experienced the hourly cartridge resetting issue.
No idea if that was the actual fix or just a fluke, as that is the only thing I've done with the machine since the day after my last message (after having done the factory reset suggestion). Figured I'd share that info in case the power off/power on sequence initiated through the power button was the trick.
In any event, thanks for your follow up. I'm relieved that the machine is no longer doing the hourly cartridge reset.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi @Mike10000,
I'd like to help!
I understand that printer resets hourly.
We can perform a factory defaults on the printer to resolve the issue
To restore the printer to the original factory defaults
1.From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Printer Maintenance .
3. Touch Restore.
4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults. A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi @Jay_G24,
I appreciate your response. Unfortunately, the issue persists.
Earlier this past weekend, I was able successfully to restore the printer to factory defaults per your instructions. Of course, then the printer indicated that it needed to be "set up" again in order to function properly. So, I used the HP Smart app on my phone to set up the printer. It successfully set up the printer, including recognizing that I'd "enrolled" in HP+ and the trial subscription to Instant Ink.
Roughly an hour later, and approximately every hour since, the cartridge reset situation has occurred.
Is it possible that this hourly cartridge resetting is a (normal?) function of the Instant Ink subscription (or even just the HP+ service)?? Might this be the HP servers checking on the status of my printer's ink levels every hour?
Please advise. While this printer is otherwise a nice unit, this hourly cartridge reset is quite loud and very annoying, especially in a home office space where I'm regularly on the phone or a video conference. It is bad enough hearing the cartridge reset from across the house but terribly disturbing when I'm in the same room and on the phone or a conference.
Many thanks,
Mike

Its not normal for printer to reset every hour.
Please check for jams or broken parts in the printer-Paper Jam
If the issue persists, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer
Hope this helps!
Keep me posted!
