Hello -

I purchased a refurbished HP DeskJet 3772. I am having issues with the setup and am curious if someone can help? I am aware that I need to restore it to Wi-Fi setup mode before attempting to "find printer" on my phone and proceed with setup. From what I can find online, pressing the cancel button and Wi-Fi button simultaneously should make the Power button flash, and then the Wi-Fi button flash, indicating setup mode. However, this is not working. When I press the two buttons, nothing happens. Any suggestions on what else i might try to get the printer into Wifi setup mode, and ultimately get my mobile device to connect to my printer for setup. Does the exclamation point on the screen mean something? I don't recall seeing this on the screen for setups of previously purchased printers. Perhaps this refurbished model has some sort of issue that's interfering? Thanks for any advice!

@Mary7712, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It looks like your HP DeskJet 3772 is displaying an error, as indicated by the exclamation mark and blinking lights on the panel.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Check the Exclamation Mark Indicator

>The exclamation mark usually indicates an issue such as a paper jam, low ink, or an installation/setup problem.

>Check if the ink cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink.

>Make sure there's no paper jam inside the printer.

Manually Reset Wi-Fi Setup Mode
If the usual method (pressing Cancel + Wi-Fi together) does not work, try this alternative:

Restore Factory Defaults

>Turn off the printer.

>Press and hold the Power button.

>While holding Power, press the Wi-Fi button 3 times, then press the Cancel (X) button 3 times.

>Release the Power button.

>The printer should restart and enter setup mode.

Re-attempt Wi-Fi Setup Mode

>Turn on the printer.

>Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel (X) buttons together until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking.

>The printer should now be in Wi-Fi setup mode.

Use HP Smart App for Setup

>Ensure your mobile device is on the same Wi-Fi network.

>Open the HP Smart app and try adding the printer.

>If it doesn’t show up, restart your router and try again.

Hard Reset as a Last Resort

>If the printer still doesn’t enter Wi-Fi setup mode, try a hard reset:

>Unplug the printer while it's ON.

>Wait 1-2 minutes.

>Plug it back in and turn it ON.

>Try Wi-Fi setup mode again.

If Issues Persist:

Try setting up via USB on a computer first, then configure Wi-Fi.

If the exclamation mark remains, check the HP Smart app for an error message.

Since it’s a refurbished unit, it might have been previously locked to another HP account if it was enrolled in HP+ or Instant Ink. Check in the HP Smart app.
