Hello,

Thank you in advance.

I bought a printer in the United States, but I recently moved to France.

I bought new compatible ink cartridges in France (301 vs. 61), but they don't work because my printer is geo-locked.

I want to change the region/re-regionalize my printer, but I can't do it over the phone because my printer's warranty has expired.

Can someone help me? I have the region device change info on hand ("use in conjunction with support personal only")

Thank you very much.

Hi @Gladys32,

Handling a region code modification for an HP printer involves a process known as "re-regionalization." This is necessary when you move between regions with different cartridge specifications. Typically, region code changes require assistance from HP support. Here are some general steps and information:

  1. Contact HP Support: You can reach out to HP Support to assist with this process. Although your printer is out of warranty, HP Support can sometimes facilitate the region change for a fee. They might guide you through the steps needed to complete it.
  2. Understanding Region Lock: Printer cartridges are often region-locked to work only in specific areas. When you move to a new region (like from the US to France), you'll need to synchronize your printer with the local cartridge codes.
  3. Prepare Information: Have your printer's model, serial number, and proof of purchase available when contacting HP Support. This information will help them verify your device and guide you correctly.
  4. Potential Fees: Since your printer is out of warranty, be prepared for any applicable service fees that might be charged for assisting with the region change.

Usually, HP's assistance is required to change the printer's region code, and contacting HP directly would ensure that you're following the proper steps to re-regionalize your printer for use with the new cartridges in France.

Hope this helps solve your issue
